Every few years, one sees the emergence
of a truly original group...one whose quality and content set them apart
from the mass, and who's sound-world defies simple comparisons and easy
categorization. Ghostland are such a group. Each an accalimed
musician in their own right, the group came together spontaneously in
the course of playing and producing sessions for other artists. The musical
alchemy in the combination of producer/drummer John Reynold's rhythms,
Caroline Dale's cello and Justin Adam's guitar quickly became apparent
and Ghostland was born. The richly varied backgrounds of sources - Rock,
Arabic, Classical, Celtic, African, Dub and Trance music all have their
part to play. What makes Ghostland special is the way these influences
have been sublimated to form a unique and very personal musical landscape.
Built on the rock solid foundation of John's hypnotic trance and Celtic
inspired grooves, the band's emotive melodies are formed in the collision
of Caroline's impassioned cello paying and Justin's lyrical but propulsive
guitar. Overhead soar the guest vocals of friends and long-time collaborators
Sinead O'Connor and Natacha Atlas. Ghostland's music is often described
as "cinematic" and it's one of the band's primary aims that each piece
should have its own character and self-contained meaning, taking the listener
on a distinct, emotional journey. The experience of playing
live together is how Ghostland started and it remains at the core of the
band. Ghostland have become festival favorites and have performed live
over the past few years at many festivals throughout the world including
Womad's festivals and performed recently Royal Festival Hall in London
with Dave Gilmor. Their performances are magical and always magnificently
received. The U.S. album release of "Guide Me God" on Rasa Music
will also see the Summer Release of dance remixes by Super Star DJ's,
Paul Van Dyk, Junior Vasquez, and Mr. Sam.
