on RASA is the first time that the captivating accappella singing of Ladysmith
Black Mambazo has been remixed with beats. This result are songs that retain the
essences of the group, yet enhance and embellish everything that symbolizes Ladysmith
Black Mambazo, an ensemble regarded as South Africa’s cultural emissaries at home and
around the world. Ladysmith Black Mambazo are a national treasure of the new South
Africa, in part because they embody the traditions suppressed in old South Africa.
The group has recorded with numerous artists most famously collaborating with Paul Simon
on the landmark “GRACELAND” album, Ladysmith Black Mambazo have also worked with
Stevie Wonder, Dolly Parton, The Wynans, Julia Fordham, George Clinton, Russell Watson,
Ben Harper, Des'Re and others. They also provided soundtrack material for Disney's "The
Lion King Part II" as well as Eddie Murphy's "Coming To America”.
Ladysmith Black Mambazo have released 40 albums. “Inkanyezi Nezazi” is the track that
was used on the Heinz advert and brought Ladysmith Black Mambazo once again to prominence.
Over 1 million units were sold due to the popularity of this track.
“The Star And Wisemen” achieved a UK Top Three hit and has reached sales of over one
million units in the UK alone, unheard of for a World Music recording Group.
