The music of lndialucia is part of
a tradition dating back to the Ninth
century when thousands of Northeastern
India's settlers chose to migrate
west and landed in a magical place
in the south of Moorish Spain. The tolerance
in evidence at this place and time
could serve us all living in the 21st century
with a lesson on love and what
can happen when people with different
beliefs, ideas and cultures live together
peacefully. Gypsies, Jews, Christians,
Hindus and Muslims lived together and
shared one another's musical techniques
to create new sounds with an unprecedented
alchemy and irresistible charm.
The album lndialucia is made up of 10
compositions combining what may at first
seem like two unlikely musical styles, the
rhythms of India and the style of flamenco.
It does this flawlessly. The musicianship on
this album is off the charts. The combination
of perfect flamenco guitar flourishes
and precise tabla beats produces a sound
that is abundant with festive celebration
and an example of human accomplishment.
Every recorded note and beat on this album
is a portal to some source bigger than
ourselves. The idea of cultures meshing
without losing their identity, while still ac~
knowledging their distinctive faiths, is perhaps
the only glimpse of an answer to today's
hostile problems around the world.
The music on this album may not produce
a meditative effect, or raise the shakti
in anyone's heart, but it certainly provides
the sort of energy that is inspiring.
If you enjoy flamenco and music from India,
lndialucia must be heard to be believed.
This is a must for all poets, artists,
musicians and dreamers. Listen to
this record, close your eyes, and dance to
the possibility of a new future filled with
unconditional love, harmony and fun.
