Maggie's: Eight Limbs to Bliss
Various Artists
Release Date: Dec, 2009
Yoga – Eight Limbs to Bliss is the result of the internal voyage that Maggie Diaz Del Castillo started years ago. The idea of naming the album that way makes reference to the eight limbs of Yoga mentioned in Patanjali’s sutras, but the music has no intentional link to the sutras. The ambient and non-protagonic character of the tunes is designed to serve the practice of Yoga, but the music can also be used for other purposes, even just listening for the pleasure of it.
In this work Maggie gave way to her ideas about how music is made, and her love for improvisation becomes evident. From Maggie’s point of view, improvisation lets you “fish” for the music that’s there, permeating the present moment. Maggie once read a poem by R. Tagore that marked her musically, particularly a line that said: ‘...that I be empty, as a flute which you can fill with music’. Of course, while she walks her way, the music will carry her personal likings and the signs of her evolution, but Maggie’s intention is to empty herself, until the music is able to pass through her.
